Boater Safety
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary provides the general
public with an array of materials available to ensure the safety of the
public. From America's Waterway Watch to boater education, the US Coast
Guard Auxiliary is there to help increase awareness for safety.
The Operations and Marine Safety Directorate (NADCO-OMS)
assists in the general administration of issues where the Operations and
Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Departments collaborate. The
OMS Directorate provides the support to meet the expectations of the
Coast Guard.

The US Coast Guard
Officer of Boater Safety is an agency of the Federal government and
a servant of the public, the U.S. Coast Guard, in its role as the
designated National Recreational Boating Safety Coordinator, is a leader
in improving the boating experience of the maritime public. As an
organization noted for working in partnership with all stakeholders
within the waterways activity spectrum and across all modes of
transportation to reach consensus solutions. We measure our success by
our customer satisfaction, and our customers' needs help define our
workload and priorities.

America's Waterway Watch a combined effort of the Coast Guard and
its Reserve and Auxiliary components, continues to grow, enlisting the
active participation of those who live, work or play around America's
waterfront areas. Coast Guard Reserve personnel concentrate on
connecting with businesses and government agencies, while Auxiliarists
focus on building AWW awareness among the recreational boating public.

The Vessel
Safety Check is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by
members of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and
state requirements for safety No citations are issued and the results of
the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal
is awarded to display if the vessel has passed the examination.

The Marine Safety and
Environmental Protection ("M") Department is responsible for the
planning and administration of Auxiliary programs to support the Coast
Guard's Marine Safety and Marine Environmental Protection ("M")
Directorate's Programs.
